Asif Mian was born in Jersey City, NJ and raised in and around New York City.
He began at a young age with painting, drawing and sculpture as well as science...
and went on to study both Studio Art (mixed media painting) and Biology (genetics) at university.
Afterwards, Mian started exhibiting his painting and sculpture work in NYC, Vancouver, Montreal, Paris and Tokyo. He also created work as an art director/designer for music and fashion. A little while later, Mian ventured into music video direction using his background in sculpture, art direction and animation.
This led to collaborations with artists like Aesop Rock, The Roots, M.I.A., HPrizm (APC), Woodhands, Emilie Simon, among others. Mian was then signed by production company, 1stAvenueMachine, for worldwide representation in commercials and music videos. This led to collaborations with Nike, Ford, Google, O2, among others.
Mian continues to creates commercials, music videos and short films that use beautiful, dreamlike imagery to create hyperreal narratives based in reality.
He is developing his first feature film, The Gxxxxn Gxxxe, while creating a new body of artwork entitled Alpha Male.
Mian was named one of 2004's Best Visual Artists by XLR8R magazine and is a 2006 ADC Young Guns 6 recipient.
His film work has been featured in SXSW, OneDotZero, Future, Krakow, Slamdance & LA film festivals.
